Puzzle Boxes

The Puzzle Boxes are an extension of the installation, “Codes on Canvas.” Codes on Canvas associated barcodes with the organization of genocide and mechanical dehumanization of people during the Holocaust.  The Puzzle Boxes relate to an old-fashioned amusement, yet its imagery depicts barbed wire, and trees morphing into barcodes. It includes an image of a tallit (Jewish prayer cloth) that was once worn by my uncle Seymour, who died as a young solider in a prisoner of war camp, yet lives on through the story of my own name, Simone. It depicts images correlated to my research trip to Auschwitz and my personal relationship to these images. My work signifies the abundance and the destructive power of nature.
